One on one with Jibby
2. What was growing up like for you? Was brought up by my mum(my super woman), lost my dad at a tender age, I was only 4 years old. Grew up with my siblings in a neighborhood filled with love. We were all like one big family.
3. Educational background? Had my primary education at St.Bernadette school then moved to Ijemo Titun High School for my secondary education. Both primary and secondary was in Abeokuta In 2012, I gained admission into Ekiti State University where I studied psychology of education and counselling.
4. Wow! So you are a graduate? Yeah I’m a certified graduate
5. What got you into music? I found myself doing music not that something got me into it. It’s been my number one passion since I was a kid . I remember my mum always told me how i made use of anything I could grip with my hands to make sounds . I Started playing drums in the church from the children’s church at 13 I was playing in the adult church already. I just have natural flare for music. I play the piano and guitar too.
6. Who inspires you? God.... God is my utmost source of inspiration. I look up to a whole lot of music legends and contemporary musicians too. Without doubt Micheal Jackson is the greatest to ever do it. Fela is a major influence too, Lagbaja, Tu baba and on the foreign scene I listen to any good stuff that is creative.(I’v got special love for Alicia keys Great personality and great musician)We also have some contemporary musicians who are breaking bounds here in Nigeria and the world at large Davido, Falz, Wizkid, Kizz Daniel and so on.
7. How would you describe your sound? Fusion of Rap and Afro beats. I do rap music and I sing too it depends on the mood. I write songs a lot and it affords me the opportunity to express myself musically.
8. How many songs do you have presently? I can’t remember all but I have done quite a number of songs Infact I have lost count of the number of songs I have written. But I have released about 8 songs in total.
9. Your biggest song so far? Without doubt Adesua.
10. Have you ever dealt with performance anxiety? Hmmm yeah I think. But I overcame it well. I was billed to perform at a show and I wasn’t expecting the kind of crowd I met there. I became anxious , I had never performed to such crowd before so I just faced one section of the crowd and was doing my thing . About a minute into my performance the crowd caught up with my song and it was easier for me and till date it remains one of my best outings.
11. How did you manage to pull such crowd during ur first headline show #TurnUpWithJibby? Sincerely I still can’t explain till now. Publicity lasted just a month and we still had people come out en masse . People couldn’t get seats. Over 30 supporting artistes. Most couldn’t perform because we ran out of time. I could only do a song as well, I had to give room for my supporting artistes to perform. We had people who travelled down from Abeokuta, Ibadan. It was a turn up indeed. The next one is going to be even bigger.12. What are your favorite venues to perform in? I can perform anywhere
13. Female celebrity crush? Alicia keys
14. Relationship status? I’m married to music.... lol
15. Future collaborations both foreign and local? On the foreign scene J.cole, Alicia Keys, Eminem. Here in Nigeria Davido(for commercial reasons lol), Asa, Kizz Daniel, Falz ,Tu Baba.
16. Where do u see urself in the next 6 years? I see myself well established in the music industry impacting lives with my music and giving back to the society. I think that’s more fulfilling for me. I see that there are a whole lot of talents out there the world is yet to witness . Someone needs to give them a voice.
17. Final words... Just do u and believe in yourself to a point of no return .
